New MM722 w/CGMS

Todd,

As far as the pump goes, the actual pump functions are pretty much the same on the 715 & 722. Nothing was really added to the x22 series except for the ability to use the sensors. I never used the meters Minimed provided (BD with my 715, Ultra with my 722) but I did manually enter all BG readings into the pump. My original 715 did not take all readings into account in my daily totals unless I bolused for it. Later versions did and so do the x22 pumps. If you don't use the integrated meter, that may be a new feature. You should have no problems transferring your settings to the new pump & starting it up by yourself.

For Minimed's sensors you should:

Insert at a steep angle. MM says 45 degrees but 60+ is better.

They say to wait 5 minutes (or 15 minutes) after inserting the sensor before you attach the transmitter. The longer you wait and let the sensor get wet, the better.

Once the transmitter is attached tape it all down securely. MM provides some sample IV3000, but do yourself a favor and buy a roll of Opsite Flexifix (made by the same company that makes IV3000) and use that. The 4" wide roll is ideal and it's much cheaper than buying individual pieces of IV3000 or Tegaderm. It also holds much better.

The sensor will time out after 3 days. To restart it, just go into the Sensor menu and choose Start New Sensor. You do not have to turn anything off first. You can even tell it start a new sensor before you get the Sensor End message at 3 days (exactly 72 hours). After the second 3 day cycle you can start it again but it will only last one more day before the transmitter times out. The transmitter timer starts the second you attach it to the sensor. The sensor timer starts when you enter the first calibration. To go longer than 7 days you have to carefully peel up the tape/dressing and remove the transmitter without disturbing the sensor. Recharge it, reattach, tape it all down and wait for the 2 hour warmup. You will not have the 2 hour wait when you restart a sensor for the second 3 day cycle (or for the third cycle/7th day).

There are a bunch of other ttips you should know but they must be in a FAQ here somewhere.
