Didn't you mean sleep with the HEAD of your bed elevated? That was what I have always been told and it does work.

Yes, thank for the catch. Elevate the head of the bed if you have a problem with GERD.

That's the same lame excuse supplement makers always make when they are unwilling or unable to prove that their supplement actually works for what they advertise it for - with disclaimer of course. There's always some terrible conspiracy to keep their miracle product from being widely proclaimed as a cure for whatever ails you. Even though they're a multibillion industry, somehow they can't afford to do the proper research, so you should just believe their testimonials. Don't you know when you're being flim-flammed?

I've never seen a "Big Pharma" study showing cinnamon doesn't work.

Well, they can't exactly say that it was that way for animals who don't have the reasoning for whether they are taking the real thing or a sugar pill and it worked for them all these years. I can't remember which pharmaceutical company had paid for the study, but it was even named in the article.

I NEVER said that the article I read was on cinnamon. I said I could not remember what the product was, but it was one that has been used for many years. The article was in a Health News portion of the news and actually gave the name of the pharmaceutical company that paid for the survey. I HAVE NOT MADE ANY CLAIMS THAT THEY SAID A MIRACLE CURE DID NOT WORK. I ONLY SAID THAT THEY WOULDN'T BE SHOUTING IT FROM THE ROOFTOPS IF THE BIG PHARMACEUTICALS CONTINUALLY PUT OUT REPORTS THAT THINGS DIDN'T WORK. WHAT THE REPORT I READ A FEW MONTHS ON WAS SOMETHING THAT DOCTORS HAD TOLD PEOPLE TO USE FOR YEARS AND WAS FROM A DIFFERENT COMPANY THAN THE ONE WHO FUNDED THE STUDY.

I AM SICK AND TIRED OF EVERYTHING I SAY BEING TURNED INTO "YOU ARE A LIAR AND MAKING EVERYTHING UP". I GUESS THAT MAKES YOU BETTER THAN ANYONE ELSE AND THE PERSON WHO KNOWS EVERYTHING.

Hey, look who's back! How was your holiday, Sam? Good, I hope.

I'm no fan of these supplements which as I said, maybe possibly do no harm, but I personally have huge doubts they do any good either. Cinnamon. *shakes head* What, pray, would be in cinnamon that would help glucose control?

Now cinnamon *buns*, that's a different matter... mmmm *dreams of frosted cinnamon buns* But I don't think they'd help my diabetes either, alas. <G>

If someone wants to try something like cinnamon (or chromium pincolinate which is what a friend of mine was prescribed by the doctor) that they have heard works for some people, why do people always have to come up and say that it is stupid or a waste of time or money? I have seen several people say that it has helped them and several others that say it doesn't help them. It just might be something that will help this person.

As for there being nothing you can see in cinnamon that would help someone, can you tell (or see) what it is in turmeric that is anti-inflammatory? Can you see what it is in ginger or peppermint that helps when someone has an upset stomach? Can you see what it is in the drugs that you are taking that is what is doing what it is supposed to? Whatever it is has to come from somewhere and someone had to try it before they could even come up with the idea that it might work to do whatever it is supposed to do.

I have taken Cinnamon since they told me that I was pre-diabetic, for at
least the last year or so. But still developed diabetes.

The endocrinologist looked at my meds list on Monday when I saw him for the
1st time and didn't say I shouldn't be taking the cinnamon so I guess I'll
keep taking it. But I am also on diabetes meds (Metformin 1g twice daily; &
Ameryl 2mg twice daily) too, plus 12 more days of these LOVELY steroids
which means I am also still on 30u NPH q morning too. Although I think
tomorrow I will call the doc on call (which is my MD,) and have him up the
dose of NPH because I think my body is in need since I haven't been below
170 today. And I haven't actually eaten THAT badly today, not the best but
not horribly.

I am off to bed now, hope everyone had a good holiday and is staying
healthy!!

The first article, which is a real study from Thailand, says those on cassia cinnamon showed no more improvement than a placebo group. It didn't work any better than placebo.

The second article doesn't quote actual studies, just makes statements.
