About 10-20% of diabetics have problems with foot ulcers. Care pays
off. Regular visits to foot centers that have multiple discipline
foot specialists are desirable places to care for your feet. This
means a podiatrist, orthopedist, vascular surgeons to get a
comprehensive check. I have not run into a readable book designed
for diabetics but I am sure they can be found.

Foot Ulcers, Treatment and Prevention

Hi Joe,
My feet are in good shape, but I just wanted to mention that the only thing that happens when I see a podiatrist is that my toenails are cut (much too short). Oh, and my endo once drew some sort of strip across my feet to determine if I had feeling there (I could have told her that).
Unfortunately, there is a lot of ignorance among doctors who work with DM.
Hugs, Dianne

I've recently had to see a podiatrist for (yuck) toenail fungus. He
recommended an oral drug that costs like $175.00 retail. (There is a
topical alternative) Now, this guy is not an outgoing, informational
sort, so it was only after I got the pills home that I was able to read
the literature with it. It was only after two nights of unexpected,
unexplained low bgs that I finally went on line and found out that this
stuff depresses blood sugar, a lot. I also had side effects that presage
both heart attack and deafness (temporary or permanent). I know, I
should have been on line about this stuff before I filled the script.
But this is a warning.... don't take prescriptions from a podiatrist
without checking out the drug first.

Newbies will find this source educational, and it is a good review of
foot care.

Well, I "hope" that these folks have come up with the real answer to "curing" T2 diabetes.
But, I've been at this for 11-1/2 years now since my diagnosis and have seen these sort of headlines multiple times over those years without the cure being forthomingc "yet"!
What I also hope is that no T2 diabetic slacks off in their controlling of bg's because they see a cure just around the corner.
It's hard enough to convinc diabetics to achieve "really good" bg control wihout the "dangling carrot" of a cure that may or may not be imminent.
Happy holidays to everyone on the list.

Here is a crisp introduction to the subject. It involves people who
are not diabetic and is common in the usa after a certain age. It is
important to know what it is and how to avoid it through effective
care. If you have good bgs, that takes care of most problems
including PVD.

Interesting bit of news from Canada regarding the status of their
poor. Evidently, they die more than the Canadian rich, or those that
are not poor. I thought there is provision for the poor in Canada
and these problems, perhaps not startling news that the poor die more
than the rich would be common to a place like New Orleans where
emergency forces were delayed until some real nasty schemes were in
place, schemes to replace the disaster area with lucrative business
ventures a la Milton Friedman before he left this life.
