Obviously your PDM is set incorrectly. Insulin duration varies by person and is not 4 hours for all. The Omnipod allows you to easily set insulin duration anywhere from 2 to 6 hours.
It never ceases to amaze me how much false information gets circulated regarding the OmniPod. Not that there aren't things on it that could be improved, but in general it is a well though out robust system.

No clue... Untrained trainer maybe. Someone familiar with other systems and not so trained on the OmniPod. While you wouldn't want to fill the OmniPod with a 1/2 syringe of air (although I'm not sure it wouldn't purge) a bubble or 2 is simply expelled during autoprime. In 4 plus years, I've used approx 800 pods and have never had an issue with air during priming and have never done anything other than a quick tap with my finger to get most of the air out of the syringe (mainly just so I can get as much insulin as possible in the pod as I use 80 to 100 units per day)

Hi Tracy

Could you circulate the web sites/links please so we can all read about the "other cordless pumps"?

Thanks

Richard

Dan,
My holdback is twofold:

1. I don't want to carry (and don't have room) 2 receivers. The Nav is huge, and I am female. It's pretty bulky in my pocket. Add the Omnipod and I'll have the receiver to also carry. Not fun.

2. Rumor and research have it that there are about 6 cordless pumps in the making, with 1-2 to be released next year (2010).

I want to wait until these new pumps are out and see if any of them are smart enough to integrate with the NAV or other very accurate CGMS. That will make me a VERY happy person to only have to carry 1 thing (whilst 2 are attached!)

Hi Richard,

I'm not Tracy, but I am aware of 2 new pumps. This one is called the Solo, and was developed in Isreal by a company called Medingo. This is the one that is very similar to the Omnipod (Dan spoke briefly of it), but IMHO, it is superior for a number of reasons. It has been approved by the FDA, but is not available for sale yet. Here is the link: http://www.solo4you.com/

The only other one I know of is Medtronic's patch pump in development. Here is the CEO of Medtronics talking about it, as well as the new pump they are marketing in Europe called the Veo. That is their first step to trying to 'close the loop': It suspends insulin delivery when the sensor glucose level falls below a certain level. Here is that video that was on CNBC in 6/09:
http://www.cnbc.com/id/15840232?video=1145719342&play=1

I *think* that Roche is working on a patch pump in Switzerland, too, but I'm too lazy right now to find a link. If there are other patch pumps in development, I'd like to hear about them.

Tracy,

Also, the current Omnipod controller has the NAV communication gear built
into it, however, they are waiting on the FDA approval (hoping for early
this year) to release the firmware update to make it active. I like having
the separate unit so I can do things like pop in a GPS mount on my
windshield while driving and keep 1 button access, though I can understand
wanting to carry less stuff, too. hehehe - Anyhow, that's the only one I
know of with a NAV partnership. If size is the big objection with them, the
end of this year/early next they are supposed to be releasing their
newer/smaller pods.

Keep in mind that in this same time frame, we may see updates to the Nav,
too.

Cheers!

Aron

Jeff,

Try Mastisol. It worked WONDERFULLY for me --until I developed a severe allergic rash to it. :) But maybe for you it'll just work wonderfully.

Are these for the Seven or Seven Plus. Just wondering as I currently have the Seven and my Seven Plus will be here next week. This way I know which ones I'm getting.

Happy to have them and Happy New Year!
