When I was started on lantus I was specifically told that it would be insufficient, it is a baseline medication and that an additional medication would be needed for each and every meal. This requires me to test 7-8 times a day and titrate the meal medication. I was on lantus 70-100 units ( I split them into two shots and prandin (which loses its effectiveness and might cause beta cell burn out -so it has fallen out of favor) but with 45 minutes on the elypical trainer a day and some diet changes I am off the lantus completely since august and back on metformin 2000 and cut the prandin down a lot. I hope with more exercise and gradual weight loss (3 lbs a month = 36 a year) I will get off the prandin by the end of 2010 and be able to reduce the metformin, at least I hope so.
Please, your numbers are way too high, I went to 3 MDs before I found one that was right. There is a lot of bad advice out there. Just be very careful to test a lot, I am very serious about testing many times a day, before and after meals so I know how much medication to take and before bed so I dont go too low when sleeping... just my routine ymmv...

Hi Jean,
The fruit taste really overtakes the spinach taste. It actually tastes very
good. In fact, if you put it in a bowl, rather than a cup, you can eat it
with a spoon like pudding or soft ice cream.
They say you shouldn't keep a smoothie longer than three days in the
refrigerator. I suppose you could freeze it. I've never tried that, but
that sounds like a good idea. Let me know how that goes. :-D Smiles,
Teri
>>>Thanks Terri, I added this to my recipes file. Can you taste the spinach
in the smoothie or does the fruit taste overtake it? Also do you know how
long I can keep a smoothie in the fridge if I make more than one serving?
can you freeze it like a frozen yogurt taste? I am type 2 also so will have
to test after having one to see where it puts my bg. thanks for any help.

Happy New Year Everyone!
I had a routine doctor visit on New Year's Eve. I had the usual
bloodwork done a week or so prior to the appointment. My A1c was 5.9
- the lowest it's ever been since my diagnosis 2 1/2 years ago at
7.1. My fasting BG was 92. I have never been on any diabetes
medication, but totally diet and excercise controlled. My doctor was
also very pleased with my cholesterol numbers. Although my total
cholesterol was up a bit, almost all of that was GOOD HDL
cholesterol! So my ratio is lower, 2.3, which I guess is pretty
good. My triglycerides and blood pressure are fine. I would still
like to lose a few more pounds, but hopefully that will come
soon. The doctor didn't even mention my weight since she was so
happy with everything else.
Just wanted to share.
Miriam
